Sins of a Solar Empire II: Harbinger Overview
Quick Answer
Harbinger is a major expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire II and requires the base game. It adds the Eidolon, a new faction built around corruption, stealth, and psionics. Planetary Transformation corrupts populations; a fully fallen world can be shrouded to support more upgrades. Corruption also changes ships: increasing it raises offensive power while reducing hull strength. Null weapons can bypass shields and spread corruption, while the expansion's cloaking and detection system supports ships that appear and vanish for ambushes. Psionic abilities can seize weaker beings or make Vasari ships attack friend and foe. Finally, Phase Echoes give some corruption-infused Eidolon units a chance to keep fighting instead of dying immediately. Together, these systems make Harbinger a new faction expansion rather than a cosmetic DLC pack.

What Harbinger adds#

Route 02
Read the Eidolon feature set as one connected system#
Harbinger's official feature list connects world conversion, ship power, stealth, weapons, psionics, and unit survival rather than presenting six unrelated bonuses.
Transform planets through corruption#
Eidolon influence causes planetary populations to build corruption over time. A fully fallen world can then be shrouded, which greatly expands the upgrades that planet can support.
Balance offensive power against hull strength#
Unit corruption increases an Eidolon ship's offensive power while its hull dwindles. Enemy units can also become infected, extending corruption beyond the Eidolon fleet.
Use Null weapons against protected fleets#
The official description says Null weapons can negate shields and spread corruption, linking the faction's weapon pressure directly to its central resource and status effect.
Account for cloaking and detection#
Harbinger adds cloak-capable Eidolon ships and a new cloaking and detection system. The Kalizaeth Profaner support capital ship is the official example of this stealth role.
Expect psionic disruption and Phase Echoes#
Psionic abilities can seize weaker beings or drive Vasari ships to attack friend and foe. Phase Echoes may also let corruption-infused Eidolon units carry on after they would normally die.
