Explorer difficulty · Day One patch 0.5.169
Scavland Explorer Mode: Death, Equipment, and Autosave
Quick Answer
Explorer mode makes Scavland combat more forgiving, speeds up money and reputation from jobs, keeps equipment on death, and adds autosave. These changes are listed in Day One patch 0.5.169. Keeping equipment does not mean keeping everything in your backpack, so do not treat Explorer as a no-loss mode.

Before you set out
Prerequisites#
- Check that your game includes Day One patch 0.5.169 or a later version with Explorer.
- Separate equipped gear from other backpack contents when assessing what you could lose.
Route 01
Decide whether Explorer matches your run#
Explorer changes several pressures at once. Choose it for a more forgiving pace, while still paying attention to what you carry.
Expect more forgiving combat#
The patch describes combat as more forgiving. It does not supply a universal enemy-damage multiplier, so avoid planning around an invented percentage reduction.
Earn job rewards faster#
Money and reputation from jobs progress faster in Explorer. This is a job-reward change, not a promise that every loot drop or trader price changes by the same amount.
Keep the death rule narrow#
Equipment is retained on death. Other backpack contents are not all protected by that statement; the developer’s explanation distinguishes gear from the rest of the bag.
Account for autosave#
Explorer includes autosave. The patch does not state an exact save interval or establish that an existing save can be converted safely from another mode.
Caution
Check the current mode controls before changing a save#
Use the options your installed version actually offers. No confirmed menu path or old-save migration procedure is supplied here. Keep a backup before experimenting with a save you want to preserve.
