SANDUSTRY Blueprints: Copy, Import and Place Builds

Quick Answer

Use SANDUSTRY's Blueprint tool to select the factory area you want to reuse, save or export it as a blueprint string, then import that string and place the preview in a clear, compatible area. Treat an imported blueprint as a plan, not a guaranteed finished factory: the current save still needs the required research, machines, materials, terrain and connections. Because the game is evolving, keep the original blueprint string and re-check it after an Early Access build changes.

Guide details

Before you begin

Save a factory section as a blueprint, move a blueprint string between saves or players, and diagnose a placement preview that will not confirm.

The observed blueprint-string and placement workflow for the current Steam release. Exact hotkeys, universal build compatibility and community blueprint quality are not claimed.

Before you set out

Prerequisites#

  • Use the current Steam build and make sure the Blueprint feature is available in your save.
  • Keep the original blueprint string outside the game before editing or replacing a saved blueprint.
  • Choose a clear placement area and verify that the required machines and research exist in the receiving save.

Route 01

Create, share and place a blueprint#

The verified workflow is selection, blueprint string transfer, preview, then placement; exact hotkeys are deliberately omitted because they were not confirmed for every current control layout.

  1. Select one working factory section#

Open the Blueprint tool in the current interface and mark only the machines and connections you intend to repeat. Start with a compact, known-working section so a missing connection is visible in the preview.

  2. Save or export the blueprint string#

Create the blueprint and preserve its text string. That string is the portable representation used by community blueprint exchanges; copying the text does not move materials or unlock research in the receiving save.

  3. Import the string into the receiving save#

Paste the complete blueprint string into the game's import flow. If the import is rejected, compare the text with the original before changing the factory or assuming the build itself is broken.

  4. Inspect the preview before confirming#

Move or rotate the preview through the current Blueprint interface until it sits on clear, compatible terrain. Check input and output directions, power, pipes and belts before placing the plan.

  5. Supply and reconnect the placed plan#

Confirm the placement only when the receiving save can support it. Reconnect external feeds and power, then watch one full production cycle instead of assuming every ghosted element is already operational.

Pocket list 02

Checks that prevent a bad placement#

  • The blueprint string is complete and was copied from the intended build.
  • The receiving save has the research needed for every included machine.
  • Terrain and existing structures leave room for the entire preview.
  • Belts, pipes, power and external inputs face the direction you expect.
  • You have enough materials to construct the plan after confirming it.

Fault ledger

If a blueprint will not import or place#

The blueprint string is rejected
Copy the original string again without added spaces or missing characters. If it still fails, treat build compatibility as unknown rather than repeatedly pasting edited text.
The placement preview stays invalid
Move to flatter, clearer terrain and check for overlapping machines, unavailable research, blocked connections and direction-sensitive pieces.
The placed factory does not run
Trace power and each external input from the edge inward. A blueprint preserves layout; it does not prove the new site's feeds, materials or unlocked recipes match the original.
