Valheim Time of Day Command: tod Values and Safer Alternatives
Quick Answer
The Valheim time of day command is tod [0-1]. The saved command table says 0 and 1 are both midnight, 0.5 is noon, and -1 reverts to default. It is a cheat command, so enable the console and devcommands first. Do not confuse tod with skiptime: skiptime moves time forward and can cause object timestamp issues when going backward in time. In debugmode, Shift+C sets time to day, but that is a debug-mode key, not the same as the tod syntax.

Guide details
Before you begin
Use tod 0-1 to set the clock, know that 0.5 is noon and 0 or 1 are midnight, and avoid confusing skiptime with a simple daylight command.

Before you set out
Prerequisites#
- Enable the console and devcommands before using cheat commands.
- Use tod for the current time-of-day value, not for long forward jumps.
- Avoid experimenting on important worlds without a backup, especially if you also use skiptime.
Desk answer
Use tod for Valheim time of day#
Use tod followed by a value from 0 to 1. The source lists 0 and 1 as midnight, 0.5 as noon, and -1 as the way to revert to default. Examples: tod 0.5 for noon, tod 0 for midnight, and tod -1 when you want normal time behavior back.
tod 0.5Pocket list 02
Useful tod values#
- tod 0 or tod 1: midnight.
- tod 0.5: noon.
- tod -1: revert to default.
- Shift+C: debugmode key that sets time to day, separate from the tod command.
- timescale: changes how fast time passes; it is a different command from tod.
Caution
Do not use skiptime as a casual day/night shortcut#
The command table lists skiptime as moving time forward and warns that it does not update object timestamps, which can affect enemy spawning, animal and plant growth, fermenters, smelters and charcoal kilns until time catches back up. That is a different risk profile from setting time of day with tod. If your goal is simply daylight for building or visibility, use tod or the debug day key instead of treating skiptime as the same command.
Fault ledger
If the time command does not work#
- tod is not recognized
- Check that you opened the console and typed devcommands first. tod is listed under cheat commands, not ordinary player chat commands.
- The world clock changed too much
- Use tod -1 to return to default behavior. If you used skiptime instead, record the exact command because skiptime has different side effects.
- Shift+C does nothing
- Shift+C is listed as a debugmode control. Enter devcommands, then debugmode, then use the key; otherwise use tod 0.5 for a direct noon command.
- The command fails on a dedicated server
- That matches the saved command-scope rule. Cheat commands do not work on dedicated servers.
