Where to Find Tin in Valheim
Quick Answer
Tin in Valheim is found in the Black Forest, especially along shorelines, riverbanks, and other water edges. Look for small to medium dark rocks with silver-colored intrusions protruding from the ground. Mine tin deposits with an Antler pickaxe or better; each deposit yields Tin ore, and Tin ore smelts into Tin. Metal deposits do not respawn, and Tin ore cannot be teleported without a Portal stone. You may also find Tin ore by breaking barrels near some Black Forest stone ruins, but shoreline deposits are the main route.

Before you set out
Prerequisites#
- Reach the Black Forest safely. Meadows beaches are not the source named by the saved tin references.
- Bring an Antler pickaxe or better for normal tin deposits.
- Plan a return trip without ordinary portal transport for Tin ore, unless your world uses a Portal stone rule that permits it.
Survey 01
Where tin deposits spawn#
Black Forest shorelines#
Walk the water edge where Black Forest meets ocean or lake shore.
The Tin and Tin Ore pages both point to Black Forest water edges. Do not search random inland Meadows rocks and call bad luck a missing spawn.Black Forest riverbanks#
Follow rivers through Black Forest zones and scan both banks.
The Tin Ore page names shorelines and riverbanks. Move slowly enough to identify the dark-and-silver deposit rather than only checking the map.Small inland lakes#
Check Black Forest water pockets and lake edges.
The Tin page includes small inland lakes as a possible water-source edge, so a coastline is not strictly required.Black Forest stone ruins#
Break open barrels near stone ruins when you encounter them.
The Tin Ore notes say barrels near Black Forest stone ruins can contain Tin ore, making it possible to smelt tin before obtaining a pickaxe. Treat this as a bonus route, not the normal mining route.
Route 02
Run a clean tin search#
Start at a Black Forest water edge#
Pick a shoreline, riverbank, or inland lake in the Black Forest. The source ties tin to that biome and those water-adjacent positions. If you cross into Meadows or another biome, reset your expectations.
Look for dark rock with silver intrusions#
The Tin Deposit page describes deposits as medium rocks with distinct dark and silver colored intrusions. The Tin page describes small shiny rock-like deposits on the ground. Both point to a low ground node, not a copper-sized boulder.
Mine with an Antler pickaxe or better#
For normal deposits, bring an Antler pickaxe or a better pickaxe. The Tin Deposit page names Antler pickaxe or better, and the Tin Ore page says deposits can be mined using any pickaxe.
Smelt ore into Tin#
Tin ore becomes Tin in a Smelter using Coal as fuel. One Tin plus two Copper can then be processed at a Forge into Bronze. Keep ore weight and transport limits in mind before you fill your inventory.
